How Your Interests Can Expose You to Spirit Attachments

How Your Interests Can Expose You to Spirit Attachments?

In our last article, we discussed how to keep spirits at bay while grieving or struggling with overwhelming negative emotions. Today we will discuss the third most important cause of spirit attachments: our own interests and pursuits.

The universal principle of like attracts like

The universal principle of like attracts like shows that we have more power of who and what we attract than we like to think. By indulging rather than processing emotions, we allow the emotion’s energy to flood us. While it might feel as though it “just happens,” this is a direct result of our indulgence. These emotions then cause additional, similar emotions to affect you.

This is especially true if these emotions took form during childhood. Let's presume that you allowed irritation to enter your emotional consciousness as a child. Later, it manifested into anger, then anger into rage, and finally, rage into hatred. At the very beginning, there was simple irritation, which led to more and more irritation, causing emotions to become stronger and stronger until they accumulated to the point where hatred had been created.

Inviting Unwanted Spiritual Attachments

Emotional patterns can, in a sense, be referred to as interests – since interests are little more than things you pay attention to. The more attention you give to something, the more of it you allow into your life. Interest in a specific emotion will also attract spirits with similar energy. If you allow yourself to be consumed by anger, then spirits full of hatred will come for you. If you allow yourself to be consumed with needless worry about whether your loved one will be with you forever, then you will attract a spirit full of jealousy. If you allow yourself to be anxious about any negative, senseless worry, a spirit in panic mode will be drawn to you. In each instance, you expose yourself to the risk of a spirit attachment.

In order to protect yourself from such influences, it is essential to control your emotions. We have explained how to control these emotions in our last blog post.

We also need to be very careful about our interests in spirituality due to the potential consequences it can cause in our future lives.

Suppose you are interested in spiritual development, or more specifically, in how the world works and how you create your own reality. Many people with such interests naturally develop a desire to be guided. At the end of the day, the Higher Self is the very being we should follow and to whom we should hand over total control of our life.

The Attraction of Spirit Guides and their Intentions

However, we must be very careful because the desire to gain knowledge and to be guided can easily attract a spirit who will want to play the role of "teacher" or "spirit guide." Why? Let’s remember that a spirit is very interested in the human-spirit relationship. This connection is how spirits receive their energy from the living and are able to survive in the astral world.

The Dangers of Building Relationships with Spirits

Once you allow a spirit to be your spiritual guide, this relationship soon becomes an addiction because the spirit will not stop taking energy from the living. The spirit will manipulate in whatever way it needs to in order to convince the living person into thinking that the spirit is essential to the living. It will also manipulate the living in such a way that they will soon lose control over their life and become dependent on the spirit. Eventually the living will push away their loved ones, or these loved ones will begin to distance themselves on their own. In short, the spirit will do its best to make its relationship with the living the only thing that matters by destroying all their other relationships and forcing them into a state of isolation.

What Spirits Offer in Spiritual Development

At this point, it is worth explaining what such a spirit with interests in our spiritual development can offer us—and it is certainly not a lot. Perhaps the spirit had studied esoteric arts during its own physical life and is well informed on the subject. However, they simply possess textbook knowledge and they cannot offer any deep insights. If we weigh the advantages and disadvantages resulting from the presence of the spirit, we will quickly realize that such a relationship always ends in suffering.

The Desire to Grow Spiritually

The Desire to Grow Spiritually

Part of the development process is the desire to grow spiritually. This desire is natural and necessary, as it allows a person the energy to extricate themselves from negative thought and emotional patterns. However, you must be very careful because the energy of desire can easily turn into lust for spiritual development -- and lust is a strong energy that can push you into an undesirable direction. For example, it might propel you toward gaining spiritual development at any cost. You will do anything to feed your ego-driven quest for spirituality.

Every desire can take on two dimensions—positive or negative. Spirits will be attracted to the lust we’re feeling. Reminding ourselves how spirits intensify emotions, we can rest assured this attachment will cause suffering. Furthermore, your lust will be reinforced by a much stronger spirit's lust that you will be unable to satisfy. This, obviously, will cause additional suffering.

You must constantly examine not only your thoughts and emotions to determine whether they are constructive or destructive, but also your intentions. Most dictators originally intend to help their people, but because they didn't constantly examine their true motives, they ended up inflicting terror and suffering—please don't let this happen to you.

Taking Control of Your Interests to Prevent Spirit Attachments

If you truly want to be free of spirits, you must know in which direction your tendencies and interests are going, as they will ultimately determine what kind of emotions and thoughts you will attract to yourself and whether you will attract spirits as well. The case described here relates to spiritual development, but can also be applied to any other type of interest or pursuit.

In the next post, we will discuss the topic of addictions. In many ways, possession by spirits is a form of addiction. We will explain the mechanisms at work in this condition and ways to free yourself from any form of addiction.
